LEWISTON – The Atrium Art Gallery at Lewiston-Auburn College is presenting the work of 66 artists from Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford counties. This biennial exhibition, “Area Artists 2005,” will run through March 5.

It includes paintings, prints, drawings, watercolors, photography and works in clay, metal, fiber and wood. The variety of styles range from representational to abstract, with landscapes, figure studies and portraits, still lifes and sculpture.

The exhibition opens Sunday, Jan. 23, with a reception from 1 to 3 p.m. that is free and open to the public Refreshments will be served. The reception will feature Muriel Schwinn performing on piano.

The juried exhibition was open to all artists, age 18 and over; they could submit one or two pieces for consideration. The gallery received 157 works from 89 artists, out of which the jury selected 77 works from 66 artists for the exhibition.

Jurors for the exhibition were Paul Faria and David Little. Faria is the arts in education associate for the Maine Arts Commission and curator of the commission’s “Arts in the Capitol” exhibitions. Little is a landscape painter who is represented by Thos. Moser Cabinetmakers in Freeport. In 1998, he received the prestigious Carina Fellowship, Monhegan.
