LEWISTON – Mayor Lionel C. Guay Jr. has announced that the city of Lewiston is participating in “Operation Community Support.” In that regard, yellow ribbons are now displayed at Veterans Memorial Park.

Approximately 75 Maine towns and cities, including Brewer, Lisbon, Hermon, Belfast, Caribou, Dexter and Pittsfield, have posted such yellow ribbons to symbolize support for deployed military personnel and their families.

Guay noted, “It is our hope that when passersby view the yellow ribbons, they will know that the city of Lewiston is a community of individuals who greatly care about the men and women serving abroad, as well as their families who eagerly await their return.”

In addition to the ribbon initiative, Operation Community Support, organized by entrepreneur and sports figure Thomas “Skip” Chappelle, provides entertainment and recreation opportunities to military families in an effort to ease the burden of having a loved one overseas.
