NEWRY – A public information meeting on a proposed 58-home residential development will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, at the Phoenix House and Well restaurant on Sunday River Skiway Road.

Maine Mountain Properties LLC and engineer Tom DuBois of Main-Land Development Consultants Inc. of Livermore Falls are to discuss the project and answer questions.

Michael Liberti of Maine Mountain Properties said Thursday that the project is situated on 440 acres of the back side of Mount Will and its summit.

“We are marketing it for second-home owners,” he said Thursday.

Liberti said lot sizes are to range from two acres to 30 acres, but the average lot size is to be slightly more than seven acres.

Because it is larger than 15 lots, Liberti said, the project is to be reviewed by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection under the Site Location Development Law and Natural Resource Protection Act.

Additionally, to get to the site, Maine Mountain Properties is proposing to construct a 150-foot-long span over Sunday River and its floodplain, DuBois said.

“We’re accounting for movement of the channel,” he added, on why such a large bridge is proposed.

Newry planners began work on the project Wednesday night.
