WASHINGTON – Bath Iron Works has been awarded a $562 million contract by the Navy to build an Aegis Class Destroyer.

U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, both R-Maine, announced the award Friday.

The work on the destroyer is expected to be completed by December 2010.

“Today, the quality of workmanship at Bath Iron Works has been proven once again with the Navy’s announcement to award them with a $500 million contract to building another DDG Destroyer,” Snowe said.
