ORONO – Boston University goalie John Curry made 27 saves and Maine’s Jimmy Howard was credited with 26 as the Hockey East rivals skated Friday to a 1-1 tie.
Curry and Howard matched each other nearly save for save in the final two periods and the five-minute overtime as neither team could put the puck in the net.
Boston University (13-9-1, 9-3-1) struck first at 8:14 of the first period when Chris Bourque one-timed a pass from John Laliberte over Howard’s left shoulder.
Maine (12-8-5, 7-3-3) evened the score about four minutes later. Josh Soares fought off a Terrier defenseman for the puck, then raced down for a 2-on-1 and found Greg Moore streaking to the net for an easy goal.
Babson 4, USM 2
BABSON PARK, Mass. – Johnny Kim scored a goal and had an assist to lead Babson College to a 4-2 victory over University of Southern Maine in men’s hockey on Friday.
Babson also received goals from Jamas LaFreniere, Brett Adamczyk and Tom Sullivan. Brett Kapteina led Southern Maine with a goal and an assist while Matt Mendoza also found the back of the net for the Huskies
Men’s basketball
Bates 86, Middlebury 66
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Brian Gerrity scored a game-high 20 points to lead Bates to an 86-66 win over Middlebury in men’s basketball action Friday.
The Bobcats (13-4) opened an early 19-9 lead and were up 46-28 at the half. Zak Ray finished with 17 points for Bates, while Rob Stockwell pitched in with 15.
Women’s basketball
Bates 70, Middlebury 50
LEWISTON – Olivia Zurek scored a game-high 16 points with 10 rebounds, her ninth double-double this season, as Bates took a 75-50 win over Middlebury at Alumni Gymnasium Friday evening.
Kayla Decato finished with 13 points, while Sarah Barton scored 10 with six rebounds and four assists for the Bobcats (14-1).
Micaela McVary scored a team-high nine points with seven rebounds for the Panthers (7-8).
Women’s hockey
Bowdoin 5, Connecticut 0
BRUNSWICK – Senior captain Marissa O’Neil recorded two goals as Bowdoin College posted their fourth straight shutout and claimed a 5-0 victory over Connecticut College in women’s hockey action Friday evening.
O’Neil found the back of the net just 1:18 into the game on assists from Brit Abery and Meghan Gillis. The Polar Bears (10-3-1) owned a two-point edge less than two minutes later on a goal from Kate Leonard, and never looked back.
Connecticut 4, Maine 1
STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut recieved goals from four different players Jacquelyn McGuire, Jennifer Houlden, Tiffany Owens and Leslie Hurlburt as the Huskies (7-9) defeated University of Maine 4-1 on Friday.
The Black Bears’ (11-7) only goal was scored by Andrea Steranko on a pass from Cheryl White. UConn’s goalie Kaitlyn Shain made 29 saves.
