LEWISTON – Holy Cross School has announced its second annual “Evening Under the Stars” auction on Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Ramada Inn. This year’s fund-raiser will benefit the school’s technology program.

The evening will begin with appetizers and a silent auction followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. The live auction, conducted by Kathy Kingston of the Kingston Auction Co., Hampton, N.H., will start at 7:30 p.m.

Featured items include a leather recliner, two Notre Dame football tickets, lobster cruise for four on Casco Bay, a balloon ride for two at the Great Falls Balloon Festival and two South African safari trips valued at $2,950 a package.

The safari is a six-days/six-night excursion for two people at Zulu Nyala Game Lodge in the heart of Zululand/St.Lucia/Sodwana Bay Marine Reserve/Lubonbo Corridor, one of the richest wildlife conservation regions in Africa. The safari also includes three meals a day a person and two game viewing activities daily.

In addition to the donations made by many area businesses and individuals in the community, Holy Cross students have done their part in helping make the auction an even bigger success than last year. Each grade is contributing items, some handcrafted, to the silent auction and the live auction.

According to Auction Committee members, last year’s event more than doubled the original goal of $24,000. This year’s goal is set at $40,000.

“Last year’s auction received such an overwhelming response,” said Faye Paquet, auction co-chairwoman. “People have been anticipating this fund-raiser all year, and we expect an even greater turnout than last year. Our plan may be to raise $40,000, but our goal is to surpass our own expectations. We encourage people to reserve their tickets early. Last year tickets were sold out in two weeks.”

Holy Cross Principal Shawn Chabot said, “The auction has generated a lot of excitement and enthusiasm among our school families and members of the community. Like last year, this event promises to be an evening of fun, laughter and lots of healthy bidding competition – all in the name of providing our students with the cutting edge computer technology they need to stay competitive academically. I want to extend an invitation to everyone in the community to join us for a great evening benefiting an even greater cause.”

Auction tickets, available through the Holy Cross School office, are $20 a person or $250 for reserved tables of 10. For additional information, contact the school at 783-9323.
