I just finished reading Judith Hopkins’ comments in the Jan. 17 Sun Journal. She said, “I don’t understand how so many people can vote against their own interests.” Ms. Hopkins demonstrated something that she and a lot of liberals don’t understand. Those of us who voted for George Bush did so precisely because we were voting for our interests. Our interests just don’t line up with those of Ms. Hopkins and other liberals.

Our interests include keeping gun ownership legal, letting babies live, stopping the spread of socialism, stopping terrorists and reducing taxes. It is exactly because of those interests that I, and the majority of Americans, voted for George Bush.

I’m tired of liberals telling me what my interests are, rather than asking me. The Democrats lost the recent election because they failed to identify the real interests of the majority of Americans. I fully support the right of Ms. Hopkins to nonviolently protest the inauguration. Just stop presuming that she, or any other liberal, knows what my real interests are.
