FARMINGTON – Vaughn A. Gagne, 55, of East Dixfield, died unexpectedly of a heart attack Saturday, Jan. 22, while feeding the birds.

He was born Sept. 3, 1949, in Lewiston a son of Laurence and Laurel (Fish) Gagne.

He received his education in Turner schools where he grew up and graduated from Leavitt Institute. He later graduated from Auburn School of Commerce.

In 1972, he married Vaughan C. Whitney in Auburn.

He was employed at International Paper Co. in Jay for 35 years.

A 32-year-veteran of the East Dixfield Fire Department, he served as secretary/treasurer for the last 28 years and was a past president of the Franklin County Fireman’s Association. He was a proud coach of little league baseball and soccer at Kineowatha Park in Wilton when his children were young and he was a proud Papa of three beautiful grandchildren.

He served with his close friend, Dick Hall, as Fair Official at Farmington Fair for 32 years and Fryeburg Fair for 12 years.

He was an avid sports fan and realized a dream by seeing the Red Sox win the World Series and the Patriots win the Super Bowl.

He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Vaughan C. Gagne, of East Dixfield; a daughter, Love Barkhurst and her husband, Eric, and their children, Sunshine and Bear of Mechanic Falls; a son, Staff Sergeant Aaron L. Gagne and his fiance, Valerie LeGate, and his son, Matthew Gagne, of Kadena, Japan; his mother, Laurel Gagne of Turner; sisters, Cheryl Burgess and her husband, Bob, of Lisbon Falls, and Methyl Nolan and her husband, Ray, of Lillian, Ala.; a brother, Ross Gagne and his friend, Brenda Parker, of Turner; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Laurence Gagne.
