WEST PARIS – Town officials say they’re close to approving a proposed municipal budget for 2005, but Town Manager Don Woodbury says fine-tuning needs to be done this week.

The annual public budget hearing held last Thursday “was a good session,” he said, “with a small group of citizens attending and several social service organizations justifying their annual requests.”

He said the proposed budget might be less than the $1.5 million 2004 budget, unless all requests are approved as submitted.

“If all requests are granted as they are, the budget will see a small increase, but the selectmen and Budget Committee are going to take one more look at the budget this week. It is still hoped we can come up with a somewhat smaller proposal than last year when we are done.” he said.

Woodbury said everyone hopes the proposal will be ready by the end of this week, since it has to go to the printers sometime in the next two weeks.

The annual town meeting is scheduled to convene at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5.
