OTISFIELD – The state is asking the town to kick in about $100,000 for the reconstruction of a 1.5-mile stretch of Bolster’s Mills Road.

Head Selectman Lenny Adler said the question will go before voters at the March town meeting.

He said the state’s request comes despite a promise years ago that the town would not have to pay for work on Bolster’s Mills Road or Route 121 as long as the town took responsibility for other roads in Otisfield.

A letter from the Maine Department of Transportation estimates the total project cost at $300,000 to improve drainage, reclaim and repave 1.5 miles of the road from a point eight-tenths of a mile south of Jesse Mill Road. The town is being asked to pay for one-third of the cost.

The letter stated that the Bolster’s Mills Road project has a high likelihood of being reconstructed during the 2006-07 funding cycle.
