LEWISTON – Mayor Lionel Guay is accepting applications from Ward 1 residents who want to serve on the School Committee.

The deadline is Monday.

Former Ward 1 representative Kay Theberge resigned her seat in a short letter sent Friday to officials. Theberge said she accepted a new job and the hours would not allow her to attend meetings.

Theberge made her resignation effective immediately. She did not attend Monday’s School Committee meeting.

Because less than a year remains on Theberge’s two-year term, the City Charter prohibits a special election. Instead, the mayor must nominate a candidate and the City Council must approve a new representative.

Applications are available at the city clerk’s office at Lewiston City Hall on Pine Street. Applications must be completed by the close of business on Monday.

Guay is expected to present his nominee at the City Council meeting Feb. 8.
