FARMINGTON – Both women and men are invited to submit proposals to present creative writing, drama, music, dance compositions, visual art and cross-genre collaborations for the 2005 Nordica Celebration of Women and the Arts. The annual event will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 25, in Nordica Auditorium at the University of Maine at Farmington.

The theme of this year’s celebration, which has become a regular feature of UMF’s celebration of Women’s History Month, is “In the Spirit of….”

Organizers are seeking original work that resists, reverses or challenges the work of women artists. Works may pursue the theme from any angle – interpreting, re-creating or critiquing the work of women artists who have shaped people’s lives. In selecting the evening’s program, event organizers will look to balance student, faculty and community representation as well as artistic genres.

Performance proposal forms are available through the UMF Women’s Studies Center at 149 Quebec St. and are also available at other venues, including Java Joe’s on Main Street. Those who would like a proposal form may call the Women’s Studies Center at 778-7387 or Artistic Director Gretchen Legler at 778-7182, or they may send e-mail to [email protected].

Completed proposals should be returned to the Women’s Studies Center by Feb. 6.
