LEWISTON – Meg Coffin drained 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds to help Bates College to a 78-39 victory over Connecticut College in women’s basketball on Friday.
Sarah Barton scored 11 points along with her nine assists for the Bobcats (17-1), while Olivia Zurek tallied 16.
Katy Serafin led Connecticut (7-10) with 13 points and six rebounds.
Bowdoin 65, Amherst 62
AMHERST, Mass. – Shaina Pollack’s game-tying, three-point attempt rimmed in and out at the buzzer as Bowdoin College staved off an upset and held on for a 65-62 victory over Amherst in women’s basketball on Friday.
Eileen Flaherty led the Polar Bears (15-1 overall, 4-0 in NESCAC) with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Alison Smith and Justine Pouravelis added 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Matia Kostakis and Kristine Morin paced Amherst (11-6, 2-2) with 14 points each.
Trinity 60, Colby 44
HARTFORD, Conn. – Jessica Baker pumped in 17 points and Trinity used a 42-12 second half to pull away from Colby College to collect a 60-44 victory in women’s basketball game on Friday.
Leigh Melanson added 16 points while Sarah Cox contributed 15 for Trinity (9-7).
Regina Wohl scored 10 points to lead the Mules (5-12).
Men’s basketball
Amherst 69, Bowdoin 60
BRUNSWICK – Andrew Schiel drained 26 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead Amherst to a 69-60 win against Bowdoin College on Friday.
John Badford also added 19 points for the Jeffs (15-1). Amherst outscored Bowdoin 13-5 in the final four minutes to seal the victory.
The Polar Bears were led by Andrew Hippert and Kyle Petrie who combined for 26 points.
Bates 71, Connecticut 48
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Rob Stockwell poured in a game-high 29 points and grabbed nine boards to lead Bates to a 71-48 victory over Connecticut College.
Elliot Linsley also chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds for the Bobcats (15-4).
Connecticut’s Zak Harris and Charles Stone combined for 26 points.
Trinity 76, Colby 68
WATERVILLE – John Hales hit a key 3-pointer in overtime to break a tie and send Trinity to a 76-68 victory over Colby.
Robert Taylor scored 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for Trinity (13-4).
Drew Cohen led all scorers with 23 points and had 17 boards for the White Mules (10-5), while Michael Westbrooks also added 19 points.
CMCC 96, UMA 71
AUBURN – Taylor Caron nailed a game-high 22 points in a balanced attack as the Central Maine Community College Mustangs rolled over the University of Maine at Augusta 96-71.
Christ Bracket contributed 19 points, while Jon Wallingford and Kaleb Violette recorded 16 and 15 points, respectively, for the Mustangs.
Lawrence Nickerson scored 34 points for the Moose in the loss.
Men’s hockey
Maine 1, Northeastern 0
ORONO – Mike Lundin stuffed home an unassisted goal at the 14:37 mark of the third period to give Maine a 1-0 win over Northeastern in a Hockey East game Friday at Alfond Arena.
Lundin’s goal beat Northeastern netminder Keni Gibson who thwarted the Black Bears with 25 saves on the night.
Jimmy Howard needed only 15 saves in the shutout. Maine raises its record to 14-8-5 overall and 9-3-3 in Hockey East.
Northeastern falls to 9-13-3 and 5-8-2 in league action.
Women’s hockey
Colby 3, Sacred Heart 1
MILFORD, Conn. – Heather DeVito scored two goals to help Colby College defeat Sacred Heart 3-1 in women’s hockey on Friday. DeVito’s first score answered a Jessica Felt goal to tie the game in the opening period. DeVito and Michele Barmash then scored in the final two minutes and 12 seconds of the game. Genevieve Triganne turned aside 25 shots to earn the win in net for the Mules (5-6-2). Stephanie Boulay made 28 saves for Sacred Heart (12-12-1).
Rensselaer 3, USM 0
GORHAM – Kari Rabatin scored a goal and assisted on another as Rensselaer knocked off the University of Southern Maine, 3-0, in women’s ice hockey action Friday.
Rabatin opened the scoring just 26 seconds in the middle period and assisted on a Sarah Daniel goal just over six minutes later. Julie Welte added a third-period insurance goal while Julie Vallarelli stopped all 11 shots she faced to earn the shutout. Rensselaer is now 15-3 overall and 14-2 in the ECAC.
Justene Lamerd and Jen Arno combined to make 41 saves for the Huskies (3-12-2, 3-9-2).
