AUBURN – Daniel H. Shapiro, 53, a resident of Sunderland Drive, died Friday morning at his home following a short illness.
He was born in Lewiston, July 6, 1951, the son of Harold and Phyllis (Miller) Shapiro. He was educated in the grammar schools of Lewiston, was 1969 graduate of Lewiston High School and a 1974 graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, having earned a B.A. in English.
On June 26, 2004, he married the former Joan C. Moore in Auburn.
For the last 20 years, he has been employed by the Lewiston School Department, recently serving as a Freshman Class English teacher.
He was a member of the Beth Abraham Synagogue and the Maine Teachers Association.
Survivors include his wife of Auburn; his mother of Lewiston; two brothers, Max P. Shapiro of Newton Highlands, Mass., and James A. Shapiro of Auburn; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Helen Moore of Toms River, N.J.; two stepsons, Colin Redy and his wife, Maura, of Avon, N.J., and Mark Redy of Little Egg Harbor, N.J., and four step-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Tyler, Bailey and Abigail Redy; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
