In regard to Rena Sawyer’s letter on Jan. 21, I agree 100 percent. Until there is a law on the books that forces people who ride motorcycles to wear a helmet, I should not have to wear seat belts or pay a fine. Motorcycles have nothing to protect operators from flying off the bike, hitting their head and dying, yet I have to wear a seat belt? What sense does that make? Officials should rethink a helmet law before they worry about seat belt use.

If I choose to risk my life in my car that I paid for and continue to pay insurance for every month, that’s my business. What right does the state of Maine have to tell me no?
