LEWISTON – During the winter months, many seniors have difficulty getting out for routine errands such as grocery shopping, trips to the drug store and medical appointments.
The SeniorsPlus “Getting Around Town” program is designed to assist elderly and disabled people in Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin counties with their transportation and grocery shopping needs.
The program relies on volunteers for which there is an immediate need in all three counties. Drivers must have a clean driving record, reliable transportation and car insurance and may be reimbursed for mileage.
Volunteer grocery shoppers assist by shopping for grocery items and delivering the groceries to the homebound senior in need of help.
To volunteer for “Getting Around Town” or any other SeniorsPlus program or for more information, call Jennifer Warriner at 795-4010 or toll-free at 1-800-427-1241.
