Why do cigarette smokers think the world is one big ashtray?

Can someone please explain to me the thought process that leads smokers to discard cigarette butts out the car window? Never mind all the people who throw their cigarettes on the ground when they are not in a car. I constantly see people throw cigarettes out car windows instead of putting them out in the car ashtray. Consider how many times this happens in one day. In case smokers did not know, the ashtray is located inside the vehicle, usually somewhere near the radio.

For all the people who are swearing at me right now and coming up with excuses such as, “My car does not have an ashtray,” I say, “Go buy one.”

Do they do this because it smells the car up, or because it is just easier to flick it than put it out? If they have a legitimate, intelligent reason for this behavior, they should share it with the rest of us.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that considered littering? Isn’t there a fine for littering?

I am sure that most smokers are very intelligent, nice, caring people, but until I get a good answer to my question, I will continue calling them ignorant. I consider all of them part of the problem with people not caring enough to take care of our world.

I am not perfect, but if I knew I was doing something wrong, I would stop doing it.
