RUMFORD – Christopher J. Chiasson, 78, of Hall Avenue, died Sunday, Jan. 30, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in New Brunswick, Canada, on Jan. 11, 1927, a son of Jacob and Agatha (Freolet) Chiasson.
“Chris” was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1948.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was employed for over 42 years with Oxford Paper Company.
He was a communicant of St. Athanasius & St. John Catholic Church and sang in the Choir since the age of 15. He was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a Life Member of the American Legion Post 24, the V.F.W. Post 1641 and a volunteer for the Chisholm Ski Club for many years.
He enjoyed making model airplanes, dancing, traveling and boating. He also loved family gatherings – especially at his summer home at Roxbury Pond.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Eileen (Blanchard) Chiasson; five sons, Timothy Chiasson of Rumford, Gary Chiasson and wife, Astrid, of Standish, Christopher L. Chiasson and wife, Amy, of Dixfield, Mark Chiasson and wife, Katie, of Florida, and Eric Chiasson and wife, Stacy, of Turner; two sisters, Evangeline Arsenault of Bridgeport, Conn., and Antonine “Toni” Sassi and husband, Lloyd, of Rumford; 10 grandchildren, Deven and Tara, Timothy and Benjamin, Tyler and Cooper, Marina, Alyssa, and twins Riley and Emma.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Martin, Vincent, Levi and Armand; and a sister, Virginia Faucher.
