WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) – Kirk Daubenspeck stopped 27 shots in his first start for the Portland Pirates to lead the team to a 4-0 victory over the Worcester IceCats on Sunday.

Graham Mink scored in the first period to make it 1-0, then Brian Sutherby tallied a short-handed goal at 4:03 of the second period.

The IceCats were on a power play when Brooks Laich had a breakaway at 4:26 of the third period. He was taken down from behind by Worcester defenseman Dennis Wideman, and on the resulting penalty shot, Laich skated to within 20 feet of the net and fired a low wrist shot past goalie Curtis Sanford.

Jaren Aulin got the game’s final goal at 18:49 with Sanford on the bench for an extra attacker. The shutout was the eighth of the season against Worcester.
