Kudos for the great letters Jan 26. I agree wholeheartedly with Marlene Shields that if some wish not to wear seat belts, let them sign waivers. The same should apply to helmets. An 86-year-old woman should not be able to take away my freedom of choice because she thinks I should wear a helmet. I feel that, at her age, she should give up her license, but do I try and make it law?

Bill Randall is narrow-minded with his views on Sunday hunting. He claims that we have six days to hunt. Unfortunately, many of us work six days just to survive in this land of taxes. We have only Sunday.

If solitude is what Randall seeks, why stop at hunting? How about fishing? I may want to enjoy a quiet moment on the lake without the noise of boat motors. I may wish to enjoy a morning coffee without somebody fishing my shore front and seeing me half-dressed.

Instead, I think I’ll post my land only on Sundays, and keep it open only to hunters.

If someone wants solitude and wishes to find it in the woods, he should buy his own land.

I am an American. I have the right to choose whether or not to wear helmets, seat belts or any other device.

My freedoms and liberties end only when they take away another’s freedoms and liberties.

How easy it is for some to assume that they know what is best for others.
