LEWISTON – The Colisee is one step closer to selling hard liquor in the VIP room.

The Lewiston City Council voted Monday to approve a liquor license for a special room above the rink. If approved by the state, the Colisee would be allowed to sell hard liquor, such as gin and vodka.

Under the plan, only Power Play Premium Club members with upgraded tickets would be able to buy the harder drinks. They would have to stay in the VIP room while they drink them.

Currently, the Colisee can only sell beer or wine.

The city will now go to the state for approval of the license. Officials expect to have the state’s OK this week and could begin selling liquor as early as Friday’s game, according to City Administrator James Bennett.
