ROCKLAND (AP) – A truck driver accused of fatally shooting the woman with whom he was apparently having an affair made his initial court appearance Monday.

Douglas Dyer, 31, wore a bulletproof vest and had shackles on his hands and feet as he was led into the courtroom.

Dyer was charged with murder in the slaying of Allison Small, 30, of Vinalhaven, who was shot and killed Friday after she ran from the office of the shipping company in Rockland that she and her husband, Brandon, operated.

Allison Small was seeking to end her two-year relationship with Dyer, who worked for the Smalls, according to a state police affidavit filed with the court.

Dyer was taken to the Knox County Jail, where he was being held without bail pending a bail hearing tentatively set for Feb. 11.

Dyer is expected to request that a defense lawyer be appointed by the court.
