NORWAY – Donald Verne Mills, 69, of Everett Lane, Oxford, died Monday, Jan. 31, at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway, after several years of failing health.

Born in Westbrook, Sept. 24, 1935, the son of Verne and Ethel Grover Mills, he married Marolyn Daye Newell in November of 1966.

They lived in Norway all of their married lives, until moving to West Paris a couple of years ago. She predeceased him on Jan. 5, 2004.

He attended schools in Mason and Bethel.

“Don” served in the Air Force for nine years. While living in Georgia, he drove tractor trailers over much of the eastern U.S.

After returning to Maine, he worked for P.H. Chadbourne, Wilner’s, C.N. Brown, and the Town of Norway.

Don enjoyed western movies, country western music and playing the guitar and harmonica. He liked working with wood in his shop and was a handy carpenter.

Survivors include two sons, Eddy Newell and Laurie of North Norway, and Teddy Newell and Pam of Oxford; two daughters, Tanya Newell and Harry of Raymond, and Carolyn Brogdon and Mike of Georgia; grandchildren, Lee Ann, Adam, Shawnee, Trevor, Hunter, Nashae and Tommy; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Colby of Greenwood; nephews, Ralph Mills and Carl and Brian Colby; niece, Marcia Smith; several cousins; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Larsen of Locke Mills; a special sister-in-law, Patricia Daye of Oxford; and friend, Carmen Hadley of West Paris.

He was predeceased by his wife; his brother, John; and sister, Mary.
