FARMINGTON – A two-vehicle accident Wednesday evening sent one woman to Eastern Maine Medical Center by LifeFlight helicopter, while three other people were taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital.

Jacqueline Tullercash, 42, of Farmington, was driving west on Wilton Road about 6 p.m. when she either tried to make a left turn or crossed over the line in front of the Franklin-Somerset Credit Union, said Farmington Police Sgt. Peter Barton. Her 1999 Nissan sedan collided head-on with a 1998 Dodge van driven by Shirley Walker, 44, of Strong.

Also in the van were Walker’s daughter, Amy Walker, 20; granddaughter, Haley Walker, 2; son, Glendon Ladd, 16; and Ladd’s friend Wyatt Smith, 17; all of Strong, said Barton.

Glendon Ladd said he was sitting in the third seat of the van when his mother screamed. He said he reached around the second seat to protect his niece, who was in a child seat in front of him. Although the child remained in her seat, he said the force of the impact sent both his seat and her seat forward. Neither he nor Smith was treated for injuries, though Ladd believed he broke a finger and complained of hip pain.

He said he was worried about his mother, who was celebrating her birthday that day. Ladd said he’d talked with her while emergency personnel worked to free her from the van. Shirley, Amy and Haley Walker were taken by ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital, where they were treated and released.

Tullercash was taken by helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Information on her condition was unavailable last night. She was the only one in her car.

Four-lane traffic on Wilton Road was reduced to one lane for more two hours while police and firefighters worked to clear the scene and investigate the accident. Farmington police officers and an accident-scene reconstructionist from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department were on scene until nearly 9 p.m.

Barton, who noted that the accident is still under investigation, said its exact cause won’t be known until he has an opportunity to speak with Tullercash.
