RUMFORD – A free Quit Smoking Program will be offered from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursdays beginning today in the Rumford Hospital second-floor Conference Room A.

The program consists of four, one-hour small group sessions led by Stephanie Thompson, smoking-cessation facilitator for River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition. It addresses reasons for smoking, triggers and roadblocks involved in quitting, methods to help people quit and strategies to help people stay tobacco-free. Those interested should call 364-7408 to register and for more information, or they may stop by the River Valley Healthy Communities office at 94 River St.

Feb. 10 deadline for recipes

RUMFORD – The Moontide Water Festival Committee, which will be publishing a cookbook, is requesting recipes for the book.

People interested in supplying recipes can take the recipe to Roberts Chiropractic Wellness Care, 43 Exchange St.

The deadline is Thursday, Feb. 10.

Meeting on nursing program

MEXICO – The Central Maine Medical Center School of Nursing is hosting an informational meeting from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 14, at University College at Rumford/Mexico, 13 Brown St.

People can find out how they can complete a registered nursing degree locally. Anyone interested in becoming a nurse or applying to this school of nursing is invited to attend, organizers said. More information may be obtained by calling Sue Daltrus at 795-2840.
