Library shows film

NORWAY – A film on the life of Paul Robeson, “The Tallest Tree in our Forest,” will be shown at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at the Norway Memorial Library on Main Street. Robeson was an athlete, singer, lawyer, actor and scholar who was widely recognized as an articulate, powerful spokesperson for social justice, human rights and freedom from colonial rule. He suffered persecution during the McCarthy era that ended his career.

Office safety

PARIS – SafetyWorks is offering a free half-day class in basic office safety from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 9, at the Career Center, Main Street.

NORWAY – The One Book One Community Readers Theatre will present a chapter from the book “Ernie’s Ark” by Maine author Monica Wood at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at Fare Share Commons, 445 Main St. The eighth chapter titled Solidarity is Not a Floor will be performed. It features the characters Francine and her parents Bruce and Cindy Love. The setting is a rural Maine community suffering the effects of a 14-month old paper mill strike.

Focus on crystals

BETHEL – Bridges to Health and Healing, a group of wellness practitioners will offer What’s Up With Crystals? from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at Crescent Park Elementary School. The primary focus of Bridges is on personal responsibility for health. The lecture series is a first step in reaching out into the community through a forum where the public can learn about healing practices that compliment the traditional health care system to discover new ways of inviting balance and wholeness in one’s life. Chowder ride-in

SUMNER – The Sumner Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary is hosting a soup and chowder ride-in from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Universalist Church in West Sumner. Included will be bread, crackers and pie. Costs are: adults $5, children under 12, $2. Plenty of parking is available.
