NEWRY – Mud, alligators in elevators and vacationing chickens will descend upon Sunday River Ski Resort when Rick Charette and The Bubble Gum Band perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5. The show is part of the Black Diamond family entertainment series.

As a singer and songwriter, Charette is known for his delightful and inspiring children’s songs. His performances blend original contemporary pop music and lyrics with imaginative activities that generate audience participation. His songs draw from experiences that children can relate to or imagine such as mud, riding a bike, a best friend, spilling juice or bubble gum.

Charette’s past appearances in the series have been as a duo with keyboard player Roy Clark. This is the first time he’ll be joined by the three other musicians that comprise The Bubble Gum Band.

Charette travels throughout the United States and Canada performing at schools and concert halls. He has released 10 albums, two children’s picture books and two live concert videos, which are distributed nationally. His 10th album “King Kong Chair” was released last March.

The singer graduated from the University of Southern Maine with degrees in music education and English. Elementary teachers across the country use his music in their classrooms as part of their language arts programs. He has been a featured speaker at the Northeast Whole Language Conference and a keynote speaker at the National Association for The Education of Young Children conference in Washington.

A lifelong resident of Maine, Charette and his wife have three adult children.

The show will be in the grand ballroom of the Grand Summit Resort Hotel at Sunday River. Tickets are $4 for children 12 and under and $6 for adults in advance, or $6 and $8 at the door. Admission for children under 5 is free. Tickets may be purchased at Books & Things in Bethel and on the mountain. For more information, call (207) 824-3575.
