PORTLAND – Rockabilly, swing, blues and other toe-tapping styles will keep the dance floor hopping Friday, Feb. 4, at the Center for Cultural Exchange. That’s when the Sean Mencher Combo will kick off the 2005 Hear Local music series.

Showtime is 8 p.m. The center is at One Longfellow Square.

The combo performs an assortment of original songs blended with American standards and classics.

Mencher’s thumb-pickin’ guitar style of boogie and swing has taken him from Carnegie Hall to an appearance on Conan O’Brien’s show to Lincoln Center.

In recent years, the combo’s performances have included the National Folk Festival, “Good Morning, Portland,” the governor’s inaugural in Augusta, The Maine Festival, The Maine Lobster Festival, New Year’s Portland, the governor’s conference for a creative economy and the Fryeburg Fair.

Mencher moved to Maine from Austin, Texas, in 1994. His New England based lineup features Shane Kiel on upright string bass, Mark Cousins on drums, Jay Termini on acoustic rhythm guitar and Zach Ovington on fiddle.

Tickets, $7, may be purchased at the center’s box office, 761-1545; at Bull Moose stores; or online at www. center-forculturalexchange.org .
