LEWISTON – Wallace E. Howe, 86, a former resident of Main Street, Greene, died Friday morning, Feb. 4, at St. Marguerite d’ Youville Pavilion in Lewiston with his children by his side.

He had been a resident at d’Youville for nearly a month. Prior to his stay there, he had resided at The Meadows in Greene for five years.

He was born in Leeds, on Jan. 10, 1919, the son of Theodore N. and Ethel (Poole) Howe. He attended school in Leeds and Monmouth Academy.

He married Bernice Daniels on June 21, 1937. She died June 14, 1999.

He was a gentleman farmer for most of his life where he enjoyed working with his hands and many different types of animals. He was employed as a farm equipment service technician and later became a member of the Carpenter – Millwright Union retiring in 1980.

During his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, gardening and especially working as a jack-of-all-trades doing things for his family and friends.

He is survived by two daughters, Eleanor Fish and her husband, Wallace, of Turner, and Veronica Carbonneau and her husband, Claude, of Rockport; a stepdaughter, Elizabeth Timberlake and her husband, William, of Turner; one son, Wallace T. Howe and his wife, Isabelle, of Lewiston; and a stepson, Louis Harkness and his wife, Norma, of Huntsville, Ala; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; two sisters, Gladys Lyman of Livermore, and Beatrice Richard of Livermore Falls; and a brother, Cecile Howe of Leesburg, Fla.

He was predeceased by a sister, Louise Gary, and a brother,Willard Howe.

The family would love to thank the friends, staff and management of The Meadows of Greene for the wonderful care and friendship that Wallace received.
