FARMINGTON – Volunteers who staff the rape crisis hot line will be honored by the Sexual Assault Victims Emergency Service on Friday. The annual meeting to recognize volunteers will be in Fellowship Hall at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church on Academy Street.
The evening will begin at 7 p.m. with music by Farmington flute teacher Anne Geller and her student Emily Pottle. The board of directors will provide dessert for the volunteers and guests.
Following the announcement of new board officers for 2005, there will be a presentation on “Creating Hardiness Zones for Girls and Women in Central Maine” by Megan Williams, a VISTA volunteer, and Sarah Dostie, an intern from the University of Maine at Farmington. They work for Waterville-based Hardy Girls Healthy Women.
For the past five years, Hardy Girls Healthy Women has been working to create a safe space for girls and women of Maine. The agency envisions a world in which all girls and women experience equality, independence and safety in their everyday lives.
Volunteers staff SAVES rape crisis hot line 365 days a year. They provide support services and listen with understanding to callers who have concerns stemming from sexual assault.
