FARMINGTON – Dorothy H. (Diette) Akerley, 94, of Farmington, died Friday morning, Feb. 4, at Sandy River Center for Health Care in Farmington.

She was born in Lowell, Mass., on Sept. 10, 1910, the daughter of the late Arthur and Lumina (Berard) Diette. She married James H. Akerley in Lowell, where he was the manager of the J.J. Newberry store. In 1939, they moved to Farmington.

Prior to her marriage she was employed in the offices of the Merrimac Manufacturing Company in Lowell. She had many artistic hobbies, but her favorite was writing many children’s stories for her grandchildren. She attended the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church and had been active in the past in the church activities.

Survivors include a son, Arnold and his wife, Delores, of Hyannis, Mass.; a daughter, Frances Harton and her husband, Leslie, of Farmington; one sister, Phyllis Evangelos of Lowell, Mass.; her grandchildren, Dr. Brian Akerley of Massachusetts, Christopher Akerley, of Massachusetts, Katherine and her husband, Ronald Beiroute, of Montreal, Canada, Elizabeth and her husband, Jon Gallagher, of Utah, Dr. Jonathan Harton and his wife, Janna, of Tampa, Fla., and James Harton of State College, Pa.; three great-grandchildren, Lilianne Beiroute, Joshua and Jeremy Harton; and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband James; her parents; two brothers, Arthur and Warren; and a sister, Mina.
