Lewiston High School has lots more celebrating to do and much to be proud of! Through this year’s Scholastic Art Awards, nine awards have gone to LHS Art students. These students earned recognition from a field of 361 submissions from throughout the state of Maine.

Two weeks ago there was an impressive awards ceremony attended by hundreds of young art students (with their friends, families & teachers) from all over Maine, including several of our own from LHS. Here are a few pictures that were taken that day of some of our talented, award-winning students.

Every LHS student who earned awards have also been offered scholarships from Maine College of Art should they choose to attend MECA after high school.

Awardees are:

$8,000.00 MECA talent scholarships:

Gold Key Award

Timothy Stokes – oil painting (still life)

Silver Key Award

Isla Hansen – oil painting (self portrait)

Nicholas Parker – digital art (landscape)

Heather Marichal – black & white photo

Merit Award

Marina MacDonald – art portfolio

Stephanie Nelson – computer animation

$28,000.00 MECA talent scholarships:

Gold Key & American Visions Award

Kelly Jackson – ceramic sculpture

Gold Key Award

Danielle Mercier – ceramic sculpture

Silver Key Award

Kelly Jackson – oil painting

The three students who earned Gold Key Awards have their work sent to New York for jurying for national awards. You may recall that last year we had two LHS students win National Scholastic Art Silver Key awards (Ashley Nadeau and Genevieve Lysen). We are hoping that we have national awards to celebrate again this year!

If you see any of these students congratulate them. This is a real honor for them and for LHS!
