LEWISTON – Free tax preparation of both federal and state returns will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 12 at Andover College, 475 Lisbon St.

The event is part of the “Take the Money; You’ve Earned It” campaign focusing on the Earned Income Tax Credit. The campaign is being promoted by cities of Lewiston and Auburn, the Lewiston-Auburn Tax Credit Awareness Coalition, the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce, and the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

The Earned Income Tax Credit is a federal benefit to assist low- and moderate-income workers. Those eligible may receive up to $4,300 on their 2004 returns. More information can be found on Lewiston’s Web site, www.ci.lewiston.me.us under “Special Notices.”

IRS-trained volunteers will be on hand at the event to prepare returns. Residents are encouraged to call 784-2951, extension 109, to schedule an appointment. However, walk-ins are welcomed and encouraged.

In addition, a variety of asset-building information will be available from the Community Credit Union, the Maine Center for Financial Education, and other groups.
