LEWISTON – Jane A. Whiteley, 55, a resident of St. Ann Street, Lisbon, died Monday evening, Feb. 7, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical in Lewiston.

Born in Boston, Mass., Oct. 12, 1949, the daughter of William L. and Blanche (McGeoch) Root, she was educated in the schools of Massachusetts and was a graduate of Nasson College, earning a degree in social service.

On Sept. 12, 1977, she married G.R. Whiteley in Yarmouth. She had been employed previously by Androscoggin Home Hospice of Lewiston as a social worker. She and her husband enjoyed being freelance writers for the Sun Journal newspaper for many years.

Survivors include her husband of Lisbon; one brother, William L. Root and his wife, Susan, of Concord, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
