AUBURN – A former hotel manager convicted of taking sexually explicit photographs of young girls six years ago is going back to jail for violating his probation.
Martin Finley Jr., 43, admitted in court Wednesday that since getting out of jail in 2003, he has failed to undergo sex abuse counseling to the satisfaction of his probation officer and he has failed to refrain from watching pornography.
The violations will cost him another 40 days in the Androscoggin County Jail.
Justice Ellen Gorman imposed the sentence after accepting his admission Wednesday morning.
Finley gained notoriety in April 1997 after he was accused of taking lewd pictures of local girls between the ages of 12 and 17. The photographs, depicting girls in sexually explicit poses, were taken at the Chalet Motel and other locations.
At the time, Finley was the manager of the 1243 Lisbon St. motel that was owned by his wife.
Finley was also charged with engaging in sexual acts with the young girls, although that charge was later dropped as part of a plea arrangement.
Lewiston police were tipped off about the case after Finley dropped off a roll of film for developing at a Lisbon Street Rite-Aid.
A store employee noticed that some of the photographs being developed pictured young, naked girls in various poses.
Police went to the Chalet Motel with a search warrant and seized more than 80 such photographs.
Finley was convicted in 1998 and ordered to spend five years behind bars. He was freed from prison in 2003.
He has spent the past several months living on Pond Road in Wales.
His probation officer learned that he had watched pornography after Finley admitted to a polygraph examiner that he had done so before taking the test. Assistant District Attorney Deb Potter Cashman told Justice Gorman Wednesday that Finley has taken steps to get his counseling back on track.
Finley was taken into custody immediately after his court appearance.
