NORTH ADAMS, MASS. – Romey Joseph Roy Sr., 75, of 67 B St., North Adams, Mass., died Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 9, at the home of his daughter, Rita Y. Ciempa, with whom he resided, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Van Buren, on July 5, 1929, a son of the late Franklin Roy and Laura (Roy) Roy. He attended schools in Van Buren.

He was first employed at the Freeport Shoe Co. in Maine, until he moved to North Adams, Mass., in March of 1964. He worked for the former Wall-Streeter Shoe Co. in North Adams for several years. He was last employed in construction with Carpenter’s Local 260 on various construction projects throughout Berkshire County. He retired in 1992, and moved to Riverview, Fla., where he lived until returning to North Adams.

He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in North Adams. He was a member of the North Adams Lodge of Elks, and a life member of the Greylock Community Club. He loved fishing at Lake Champlain, hunting, and playing cribbage. He liked attending flea markets and tag sales. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, the former Betty Jane Hinkley, whom he married on Oct. 27, 1963; five daughters, Rita Y. Ciempa and her husband, Michael, with whom he lived, Denise L. Gove and her husband, William, of Auburn, Sonia Grant and her husband, Scott, of Auburn, Sherry J. Willett and her fianc, William McIntyre, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Tina M. Circle and her husband, Richard, of Seattle, Wash.; five sons, Richard Roy and his fiancee, Susan Hewes, of Auburn, Keith Willett and his wife, Lola, of Lisbon Falls, Scott Willett and his fiancee, Brenda Harrington, of North Adams, Mass., Romey J. “Kyko” Roy Jr., and his fiancee, Judy Dargie, of Adams, Mass., and Jeffrey Roy and his wife, Tina, of Brandon, Fla.; 23 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Estelle Cyr, and Esther Cyr of Ellenton, Fla.; one brother, Frank Roy of Sarasota, Fla.; nieces and nephews; and his pet dog, “Tasha.”

He was predeceased by his former wife, Constance Wynott; and one brother and one sister, Norman Roy and Rachel Roberts.
