PORTLAND – Trumpeter and composer Dave Douglas and one of his newest ensembles, NOMAD, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at the Center for Cultural Exchange.

NOMAD will feature Douglas with Myron Walden on alto sax and clarinet; Rubin Kodheli, cello; Marcus Rojas, tuba; and Tyshawn Sorey, drums.

His latest album, “Mountain Passages,” resulted from an invitation he received from The Festival at The Sound of the Dolomites in northern Italy. They asked him to write music that would be played between 9,000 and 12,000 feet. “They told me we’d be hiking,” Douglas said.

In August 2003, Douglas led NOMAD on a long hike up in the Dolomites mountain region. There, they played this music for hundreds of fans who had hiked up to hear them. “It was one of the most exhilarating musical experiences I’ve ever had,” Douglas said.

Concert tickets are $25 and may be purchased through the center’s box office at 761-1545, ext. 102, online at www.ticketweb.com or at Bull Moose music stores.
