On the issue of a death penalty in Maine, I am all for it. It’s about time Maine truly punishes the most heinous criminals with the most severe punishment of all.
The value of the death penalty can be argued on many fronts, including deterrence, morality and religion. All those factors should be tossed out. The death penalty is simply the correct punishment for the crime of murder. Life in prison for a murderer is not justice for the victim nor punishment for the offender. It also might allow a murderer to commit the same crime again.
Quite simply, I believe that if a person takes a life, that person should be prepared to pay with his or hers.
