AUBURN – The Central Maine Camp Fair will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, in the Central Maine Community College gym. More than 40 Maine summer camps will be represented. It is also an opportunity for anyone interested in working at a summer camp.

Coordinator named

AUGUSTA – Maine’s leader in bicycle and pedestrian advocacy has strengthened its efforts this month with the addition of a new staff member. Peter Phair of Wayne has been hired as the Bicycle Coalition of Maine’s membership and youth education coordinator.

Phair’s primary responsibilities will be to further develop the membership of 5,500 bicyclists and businesses and do curriculum development geared toward junior high, high school and college students.

Peter has a background as a teacher, educational consultant, facilitator and camp director. He has worked in several nonprofit settings in his 30-year career and has experience designing and facilitating experientially-based programs for kids and adults of all ages and abilities.

Scholarships open

PORTLAND – Maine Employers’ Mutual Insurance Co. is accepting applications for its 2005 Horizon Scholarship through April 15.

The scholarship was created by the board of directors in 2001 to assist the children and spouses of workers who have died or suffered serious injury due to a work-related injury.

To be eligible, applicants must be the spouse or child of a worker who was insured through the firm or its subsidiary, MEMIC Indemnity Co., at the time of his or her workplace injury. Applicants must be attending, or be prepared to attend, an accredited college or university.

Applicants must complete the form, available from the Web site, www.memic.com, or by calling 1-800-660-1306. Winners will be selected based on academic performance, community involvement, future promise, financial need and other life experiences.

Tsunami relief

AUGUSTA – Employees from Central Maine Power and other Energy East Corp. companies have contributed more than $30,000 to the tsunami relief effort. Combined with matching funds from the Energy East Foundation, more than $60,000 will go to tsunami relief.

The drive began in early January and continued through the month. Employees could submit donations to one of several relief organizations and have their contribution matched dollar-for-dollar by the Energy East Foundation.
