RUMFORD – Edward P. “Ted” Ziko, 87, died Friday, Feb. 11, at the Rumford Hospital, Rumford. A lifelong resident of the area, he resided on Hancock Street, Rumford.

He was born in Rumford, on Nov. 27, 1917, a son of Antonio and Agnes (Janowicz) Ziko, and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1936.

During World War II, he served as a sergeant with the U.S. Army, Co. B., 103rd Infantry overseas including Guadalcanal, Northern France, New Guinea, Luzon and received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star.

He was formerly employed by Oxford Paper Company and the Mechanics Institute, and later under Boise Cascade in the sample department as a clerk, and after more than 43 years, retired in 1980.

He was a Communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Church; a member of Napoleon Ouellette Post 24, American Legion and the Robert Shand Post 1641, VFW; Member Rumford Lodge 862, B.P.O.E.

He was married in Rumford, on Oct. 13, 1947, to the former Geneva McPhee who survives of Rumford.

Other survivors include Edward A. Ziko of Mexico; Thomas Ziko of Raleigh, N.C.; Joseph Ziko of Coventry, Conn.; and Timothy Ziko of Simsbury, Conn.; and eight grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Walter.
