I am responding to a story printed Feb. 8, “Kindness to spare.” I just want to point out how important it is to take care of your car, or it will take care of your wallet.

Bryan Reed did a good thing as long as he didn’t lose his job over giving a customer his employee discount and installing the tire with no labor charge. But if the car’s owner had made sure his spare tire was good, none of that would have happened. Tires are very important. Drivers must inspect their car’s tires every day.

I imagine that Mr. Steadman’s tire was very low on air pressure when he hit one of Lewiston’s famous potholes, and his tire blew out in the sidewall.

The story made me upset because it didn’t tell people how important it is take care of their cars.

I also believe that Steadman will need to fix the tire that was on the opposite side of the one that blew and put it on his spare rim (unless it is a doughnut tire), and purchase another tire to match the new one. I bet right now the Steadmans are still driving without a spare.

People need to understand, if they take good care of their car, the car will take good care of them.
