BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – State lottery officials awaited contact Monday from the winner of Saturday night’s multi-state Powerball jackpot – worth as much as $40.6 million.

The prize was the third-largest Powerball jackpot won in Louisiana in the nine years it’s been offered in the state, according to the lottery. The largest was in 2002, when Kenner appliance repairman Jerry Berggren won a $48 million jackpot.

Saturday’s winning ticket was sold in Baton Rouge.

The winner can take the money in 30 annual payments totalling more than $40 million or in a lump sum. The lottery originally estimated the after-tax lump sum would be $28 million but corrected that figure Monday, saying the lump sum will be $23,041,529.64.

The ticket for Saturday’s drawing was bought at a Shell Food Mart, the owners of which will receive a bonus of $25,000 – not the $40,600 the lottery estimated over the weekend.

The holder of the ticket has 180 days after the drawing to claim the prize in Baton Rouge. Dudley Lehew, a lottery spokesman, recommended the winner get some investment advice before claiming the prize.

The ticket matched all five numbers, plus the Powerball, in Saturday night’s drawing. Two consolation tickets matched four of five numbers, plus the Powerball, and are worth $5,000 each.

Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot will be worth an estimated $10 million.
