LIVERMORE FALLS – The Downtown Betterment Group will hold an organizational meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Chuck Wagon to complete its bylaws and choose a board of trustees.
This is the latest step to incorporation for the group, which is seeking ways to revitalize the downtown economy while retaining the character of its small downtown center.
Guest speaker will be Deb Burd of the Western Mountains Alliance. Food may be ordered from the menu and will be Dutch treat.
Last winter, the group enlisted the services of Pierce Atwood Consulting to help with a general plan of action. After receiving public input, the firm focused on several key points that were the strengths of the area, including utilization of an untapped resource, the Androscoggin River.
The study highlighted the potential of expanding recreational business activities and nature-based tourism. Among the most important action items are the formation of a nonprofit corporation to be able to receive grant money and donations from various funding sources, the use of tax incentive financing, and formation of a downtown betterment district.
All those interested are invited to attend the Tuesday meeting.
