CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – One of the perks of being a state legislator could be in jeopardy because of the recent spotlight on ethics and financial disclosure.

Ski New Hampshire, whose members include most of the state’s ski areas, traditionally has offered lawmakers voucher booklets that allow them to ski free for one day at each of five ski areas.

The ski areas asked the Joint Legislative Ethics Committee whether the vouchers are a gift that lawmakers are obligated to report under their ethics guidelines.

The Ethics Committee said it could not issue an official ruling to an outside group. But the committee did suggest that Ski New Hampshire include a note on the booklet, advising lawmakers that the value of one of the vouchers could exceed $50 and the value of all five could exceed $250. Lawmakers are required to report gifts over $50 in value and are forbidden to accept gifts over $250.
