NORWAY – Merlin E. Moody, 63, of Waterford, died Monday, Feb. 14, at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.
He was born in Bridgton, on July 25, 1941, the son of Leonard W. and Effie Jane (Ridley) Moody. He married Gertrude Thomas on March 21, 1981.
He had worked for B.E. Cole Shoe Company of Norway, Hillcrest Poultry, Lucas Tree, Pleasant Mountain Ski Area, and retired from the Canadian National Railroad.
As a teenager, he played in the Lewiston High School Band, Jazz Band, and the Drum and Bugle Corps. Throughout the years, he played in various local bands, including D. Rogers and the Nitehawks, The Lancers, The Impacts, Sonny and the Black Ravens, Coastline Charlie, Scrapper Pratt and the Falcons, The Nitehawks, Silver Wings, Lee Moore and The Country Ridge Riders, and The Rockin’ Roadrunners. He also enjoyed playing and organizing dances for people with special needs with Oxford County Nitelife, harness racing, and traveling. He helped sponsor individuals for the Alcoholics Anonymous chapter, and was also a member of the Maine Harness Racing Association.
He is survived by his wife of Waterford; sons, Richard Moody of Albany, and Larry Moody of Norway; daughters, Jane Munn of Norway, and Theresa Milligan of Texas; a brother, Orman Moody of Auburn, Mass.; and nine grandchildren, Benjamin Moody, Erik Munn, Elliott Munn, Nicholas Moody, Charles Munn, Rene Moody, Cody Milligan, Michael Milligan, and Ashley Milligan.
