LEWISTON – Adelard M. “Ben” Provencher, 88, of 111 Baxter Ave., Auburn, died Monday, Feb. 14, at Central Maine Medical Center.
Born in Lewiston, June 28, 1916, a son of Arthur and Alpha Veilleux Provencher, he was educated in Auburn schools. He worked 33 years as a trackman for the Maine Central Railroad, retiring in 1976.
He was a member of the Auburn Catholic community at Sacred Heart Church, where he served as a eucharistic minister, was vice-president of the Golden Age Club, New Auburn Senior Citizen, and Horizon 55. He loved spending time with his wife and family, as well as serving his church. He was proud of his work on the railroad. He enjoyed gardening and his lawn, taking trips, camping, and working the senior citizen bingo games.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Grace B. Baribeau of Auburn; a daughter and son-in-law, Lillian and Jay DeVries; a grandson and his wife, Matthew and Autumn DeVries; and a great-grandson, Cameron DeVries all of Seneca Falls, N.Y.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Elaine Provencher; three sisters; and four brothers.
