BUCKFIELD – Town Manager Glen Holmes said he hopes to start interviews next week for two full-time emergency medical technicians. The EMTs will be town employees and will work 9 to 5, Monday through Friday.
The Buckfield Rescue Unit is now under town jurisdiction, a move approved at a special town meeting on Feb. 3. The rescue unit had been struggling to provide adequate daytime coverage since many of its volunteers had full-time jobs.
These two new positions were also approved at the town meeting.
Selectmen on Tuesday night set the date for the annual town meeting for Wednesday, June 22, at 7 p.m.
Holmes said the sale of the Lowe property at 23 Turner St. is on schedule, and that the transfer is scheduled to take place at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 22 at the law offices of Gary M. Prolman in Portland. The town had foreclosed on the partially burned property three years ago. It’s next to the Odd Fellows Theater on Turner Street.
In other business, it was noted that Buckfield has used 125 percent of its projected amount of salt this winter. Morton salt reserved the right to increase the cost if this percentage was reached, and did increase the price $5 a pound. Even with this increase, Morton is still the cheapest provider of salt for the town, Holmes said.
The board approved Terry Hayes and Steve Campbell for the SAD 39 Budget Committee.
Holmes reported that he has been in contact with National Geomatica, a mapping system that offers free document scanning and document management for towns. The board agreed to have a representative make a presentation to the selectmen and the Planning Board. A tentative date was set for 7 p.m. March 15.
