PERU – Voters will have plenty of choice when they cast ballots during the annual municipal elections on March 21.

Several people are running for two seats as selectmen, several for road commissioner, and three for two seats on the SAD 21 board. Only Bill Hussey, chief of the Peru Fire Department for many years, is running unopposed for another three-year term.

Longtime Selectman Jim Pulsifer has decided not to seek another three-year term, while incumbent Andre St. Pierre is going after a second term. St. Pierre is a MeadWestvaco employee and small business owner.

Also running for selectman are Kathryn Austin, a University of Maine at Farmington student, and Rodney Jamison, a former selectman now retired from MeadWestvaco.

Six-year Road Commissioner David Gammon is seeking a third, three-year term. Challenging him are Richard Vaughn, a former selectman and road crew member, and Daniel Carrier Jr., a member of the Peru Fire Department.

In June, the Peru School Committee will be phased out. Instead, four representatives from Peru will sit on the SAD 21 Board of Directors. Running for a three-year term are Janet Rowley, a longtime member of the Peru School Committee, and Stephanie Prue.

Running for the two years remaining in the three-year term begun by Tammi Lyons, who resigned in January, is Patricia Hunt, a former Peru School Committee member.

Voting takes place from noon until 8 p.m. at Rockemeka Grange. The annual town meeting is set for March 19 at Peru Elementary School.
