ROCKLAND – Three area youngsters competed in the Maine Elks Association’s State Hoop Shoot held recently at Rockland High School.
Dustin James, representing Farmington Elks Lodge #2430, captured the championship in the Boys 10-11 Division, canning 21 of 25 foul shots. He also received the Amos A. McCallum Outstanding Shooter Award for the boys.
Taylor Dickson of Rumford Elks Lodge #862 took third place in the Girls 8-9 Division, clicking on 11 of 25 attempts.
Christine Briggs of the same Rumford Lodge, finished third in the Girls 10-11 Division, netting 17 of 25 shots.
Following were the top 3 finishers in each division: Girls 8-9: 1. Casey Modery, Bangor; 2. Samantha Mack, Portland; 3. Taylor Dickson, Rumford. Boys 8-9: 1. Jacob Moody, Wells; 2. Robert Rockwell, Houlton; 3. Nathan Somes, Gardiner. Girls 10-11: 1. Chelsea Morley, York; 2. Katelyn Deraps, Greater Ellsworth; 3. Christine Briggs, Rumford. Boys 10-11: 1. Dustin James, Farmington; 2. Brandon Bouchard, Millinocket; 3. Justin Pollard, Wells. Girls 12-13: 1. Kayla Belanger, Augusta; 2. Laura DiMillo, Portland; 3. Vanessa Sanderson, Houlton. Boys 12-13: 1. Ryan Leach, Augusta; 2. Sean Murphy Portland; 3. Cody Briggs, Sebasticook Valley.
