ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Roger W. Coombs, 83, of Temple, passed away Monday, Feb. 7, at Swedish Hospital in Englewood, Colo. He was the owner of Farmington Laundry and Drycleaners.
He was born April 27, 1921, a son of Mary and Everett Coombs, in East Vassalboro, the youngest of three sons. He graduated from Winslow High School in 1939, and attended one year of college at Thomas Business College.
In 1942, he joined the United States Army, where he served in a medical unit in Europe, North Africa and the Pacific. After World War II, he worked in a woolen mill in Vassalboro.
In 1948, he married Doris Mosher in Temple.
In 1952, he purchased the former Chester Greenwood building on Front Street in Farmington, and opened the Farmington Laundry and Drycleaners business, which he ran until 1992.
He belonged to the Rotary Club and the Masons, and served on the Franklin Memorial Hospital Board during the 1970s.
After his retirement in 1992, he was a member of the Franklin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. In November 2004, he and his wife moved to Denver, Colo., to be close to their son.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; a son, Alan Coombs and his wife, Gail, and his granddaughter, Elizabeth Coombs, all of Denver; a brother-in-law, Hollis Mosher and his wife, Natalie, of Temple; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Paul; and brothers, Richard and Alfred.
